About four months after its debut, the new Isuzu D-Max 2.2D pick-up truck has charted a positive sales record, as it commanded 17.3% share of the Malaysian pick-up truck market in the second quarter of this year (Q2 2026).
This positive sales record also saw the brand’s market share rise by a significant 3% over its previous quarter’s performance, reflecting the strong appeal of the new engine’s improved performance, greater refinement, and superior fuel economy.
D-Max 2.2D Standard 4×4 Auto – Most Popular Variant
Of all the new D-Max 2.2D launched, the D-Max 2.2D Standard 4×4 Auto becomes the top-selling variant throughout this period, holding up to 36% of the Isuzu D-Max’s overall sales.
The D-Max 2.2D Single Cab Auto also proved to be a popular choice among Malaysians, not only because it is the first single-cab pick-up truck to be offered with an automatic transmission option but also due to its ability to deliver significant loads regardless of terrain with its superior 4×4 system.
This has also resulted in the D-Max 2.2D Single Cab Auto accounting for 60% of Isuzu D-MAX single cab sales, and Isuzu Malaysia expects this positive momentum to continue in the near future.

“The traditionally-renowned capabilities of the Isuzu D-Max now combine with a new suite of performance benefits that include refined performance and even greater fuel efficiency that offers Malaysian motorists a superior all-round pick-up truck,” said Isuzu Malaysia CEO Tomoyuki Yamaguchi.
Isuzu’s “Best Engine Ever”
To recap, the new 2026 Isuzu D-Max 2.2D replaces the highly-popular 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine with the new 2.2-litre 4-cyl RZ4F-TC turbodiesel engine that Isuzu hails as its “Best Engine Ever,” which is then mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift.
Capable of delivering up to 163 PS and 400 Nm, Isuzu claims this DDi engine features up to 6% more start-up torque and 5% better fuel efficiency over the previous model while meeting the strict Euro 5 emission standards.

“The new range of Isuzu D-Max with its new 2.2-litre engine and 8-speed automatic transmission has performed exceptionally well since its launch in April this year. The new powerhouse achieves improved heights in every aspect, ranging from fuel efficiency, power, quietness, and emissions. That’s why we don’t hesitate to call it our ‘Best Engine Ever,'” said Kenichi Kudo, COO of Isuzu Malaysia’s Light Commercial Vehicle Division.
