The Japanese GT Association (GTA) and Haro Sports & Entertainment today released a joint statement announcing the postponement of the Malaysian round of the 2026 Autobacs Super GT.
The Malaysian leg, which was scheduled as the third round for this series, was originally scheduled to take place from June 19 to 21, 2026, with the round set to feature the Sepang 300 km endurance race—the only race taking place outside of Japan this year.
Postponed Due to Current Global Environment
As mentioned in their joint statement, this decision was made due to the current global environment, in particular the escalating and uncertain situation in the Middle East, which has introduced significant operational and logistical challenges.
These developments, along with the soaring rise in international freight costs and air travel expenses, have had a disproportionate impact on the planning and delivery of the event.
“We would like to thank Haro Sports & Entertainment and everyone involved in Malaysia for their efforts in preparing for the event. This was a difficult decision to make, but we would like to thank our Japanese fans, entrants, sponsors, and media for their understanding. We will continue to build a cooperative relationship with Haro Sports & Entertainment and everyone in Malaysia so that Malaysian fans can once again enjoy an exciting Super GT,” said GTA president and CEO Masaaki Bandoh.
“While this was not what we envisioned for the second year running of the Malaysian round, we would like to thank GTA, the teams, and all valued stakeholders—our partners, sponsors, the media, and especially all fans—for their strong support and understanding in these challenging times. The race will be back in Malaysia, and when it does, we are committed to making it twice as exciting!” said Haro Sports & Entertainment managing partner Fahrizal Hassan.
Super GT to Return to Malaysia “When Conditions Allow”
The joint statement is ended by stating that the postponement is temporary, with both GTA and Haro Sports & Entertainment reaffirming their commitment to bring Super GT back to Malaysia “when conditions allow for a safe, stable, and high-quality event.”
As for those who have purchased tickets for the event, a statement published via Super GT Malaysia’s official Facebook page reads that tickets booked will be valid for the rescheduled race date, but owners can still request a refund, which must be submitted by April 30, 2026.
Alternatively, for those who choose not to request a refund, their tickets will be automatically upgraded to include free grid walk access at the rescheduled race date.
