GWM Malaysia has continued its positive momentum from 2025 in the first quarter (Q1) of 2026 by shifting 1,294 units, which is enough to maintain its position among the top 15 automotive brands in Malaysia.
The positive Q1 sales record comes after a stronger performance in March that the automaker says reflects “stabilising consumer sentiment and sustained interest across GWM’s product line-up.”
Wey G9 Crowned as No. 1 Chinese Luxury MPV in Q1 2026
Part of its positive performance is due to the strong post-launch momentum shown by the GWM Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV, which has emerged as the number 1 best-selling Chinese luxury MPV in Q1 2026.
Since its launch earlier this year, the G9 has set several new benchmarks within its segment by not only becoming the first model to introduce GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system but also the first Chinese luxury MPV to be locally-assembled (CKD) here in Malaysia.

By volume, the GWM Haval H6 HEV remains the brand’s most important product, building on its strong performance from last year, where it ranked as the second best-selling hybrid vehicle in Malaysia with a significant 14.9% market share.
Next in line is the Tank 300, where the off-road 4×4 SUV has further strengthened its position in the lifestyle off-road SUV segment, just in time for the upcoming launch of its hybrid twin, the GWM Tank 300 HEV, scheduled to take place in the coming months. Together with the Tank 500 HEV, these two ladder-frame-based SUVs contribute to GWM Malaysia’s strategy to grow its SUV footprint in both lifestyle and premium market segments.
Last but not least is the Ora Good Cat, which has sustained its role as an accessible urban EV option for years since it was first launched in Malaysia back in 2023, followed by the updated version that was unveiled late last year.
Tank 300 HEV Launching Soon, 60 Outlets by End of 2026
As mentioned earlier, GWM Malaysia is poised to expand its hybrid product lineup with the launch of the upcoming GWM Tank 300 HEV, which is set to happen in the near future, possibly at the upcoming Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026.
Speaking of which, the automaker is also poised to increase its brand visibility in Malaysia through several key industry platforms, including the aforementioned KLIMS 2026 and Penang Motorshow 2026.
The next phase of growth for GWM Malaysia is the expansion of its dealer network, with a target of having 60 outlets by the end of this year, building on the 39 locations it currently operates nationwide.

More importantly, the automaker will remain focused on advancing its multi-powertrain strategy across pure combustion (ICE), HEV, PHEV, and fully electric (BEV) offerings, supported by its diverse portfolio comprising brands like Haval, Tank, Wey, and Ora.
“While market conditions remain challenging, GWM Malaysia remains focused on delivering practical and reliable mobility solutions that meet the real needs of our customers. Our performance reflects growing confidence in the brand, supported by a balanced product portfolio and our continued commitment to long-term value,” said Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, Mr. Cui Anqi.
