Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) giant BYD has surpassed yet another production milestone, with its sixteen millionth NEV just rolling off from its production line.
And this sixteen millionth electrified car turns out to be the newly-updated 2026 Denza D9 MPV that features BYD’s ‘Flash Charging’ technology with up to 1,500 kW of DC fast charging rate.
Yet Another Milestone for BYD
This sixteen millionth NEV rollout marks yet another significant milestone for BYD as a whole, with the company’s recent rapid expansion seeing them produce six million vehicles in under two years’ time.
Mind you, these figures are for the BYD group as a whole, which also includes an array of sub-brands such as Denza, which was originally formed via a partnership with Mercedes-Benz and is positioned above the core BYD lineup as the company’s premium arm.

Other BYD-owned sub-brands include Fang Cheng Bao (or Formula Bao) and YangWang, with the latter known for producing the world’s fastest production vehicle, the YangWang U9 Xtreme.

Denza as ‘Test Bed’ for BYD’s Newer Technologies
Given its premium positioning, the Denza brand is often used as a ‘test bed’ for any of BYD’s latest technologies, and this exact sixteen millionth NEV model is an example of such.
For its 2026 version, the new D9 MPV comes in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) forms, both featuring the company’s second-gen Blade Battery technology with its proprietary Flash Charging system.

In the BEV version, the new D9 gets a larger 115 kWh battery pack that boosts its maximum range to 800 km (CLTC) for the single FWD model and 750 km for the dual-motor AWD.

But what’s more impressive is the charging performance, as the new Blade battery enables the D9 to support up to 1,500 kW of DC fast charging, meaning that its larger pack can be charged from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

Besides the new battery technology, the newly-updated D9 also becomes the test bed for BYD’s latest God’s Eye 5.0 intelligent driving assistance system that the company claims can now support highly-automated city and highway driving, as well as automated lane changes.
Prices for the 2026 Denza D9 start from CNY 389,800 (RM225,952) onwards in native China. More importantly, the PHEV version was already confirmed to become BYD’s next global product alongside the 2026 Z9 GT, meaning it is plausible that the flash-charging-equipped D9 might be coming to our market in the future. Excited?
