We’re reporting live from the media launch of the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2026 (KLFW 2026) to witness the inaugural public debut of Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia’s upcoming plug-in hybrid SUV, the Omoda C7 PHEV.

While this was the first time the C7 PHEV was shown in Malaysia, its pure combustion twin already made its local public appearance way back at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, followed by another local appearance at O&J Malaysia’s Gen-O lifestyle community launch held last month.

Same SHS PHEV Powertrain as J7 PHEV

Although details are quite scarce for now, we’ve been told that the upcoming C7 PHEV will share the same Super Hybrid System (SHS) powertrain setup used on the Jaecoo J7 PHEV.

The setup features a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged dedicated hybrid engine at its core, which comes with a higher output of 156 PS and 220 Nm for the C7 PHEV. Said engine is then mated to an electric motor producing 204 PS and 310 Nm, plus a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

Combined, the whole setup is rated at up to 360 PS and 530 Nm to enable the C7 PHEV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds—the same as the J7 PHEV, despite being 13 PS and 5 Nm more powerful.

For the battery half, the C7 PHEV harbours the same 18.3-kWh BYD ‘Blade’ LFP battery pack as the J7 PHEV to provide 95 km of pure electric range and up to 1,250 km of comprehensive travel range.

O&J’s New C-Segment SUV

Debuted globally in late 2024, the Omoda C7 stands as the brand’s first model designed specifically for international markets, where it is positioned between the Omoda C5 (Chery O5 in Malaysia) and Omoda C9 as the brand’s new C-segment SUV crossover.

And not to our surprise, the C7 PHEV carries very few design changes over its pure combustion twin, with the few notable changes being the PHEV badge on the tailgate, the CCS2 charging port located on the rear right quarter panel of the car, and new 20-inch wheels with a turbine-style spoke design finished in a two-tone colourway.

In terms of size, the C7 PHEV stands 4,621 mm tall, 1,872 mm wide, and 1,588 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, making it 121 mm longer, 7 mm wider, and 92 mm shorter than the J7 PHEV.

The same goes for its interior, where the C7 PHEV gets the same cabin setup as its ICE twin. Some key highlights primed here include the following:

  • 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that can be slid over to the front passenger
  • Slim digital metre cluster
  • Powered, heated, and ventilated front seats with nubuck leather upholstery
  • 12+2-speaker Sony audio system with a driver-side headrest speaker
  • Multi-colour ambient lights
  • 537-litre boot space

Launches in Q4 2026, Assembled at Chery’s Shah Alam Plant

While not many details were given regarding the Omoda C7 PHEV, we’ve also been told that this semi-electrified SUV will make its debut sometime later in Q4 2026—perhaps making way for the recently-previewed Jaecoo J5 EV to launch first.

As expected, no pricing details were shared for now, but expect it to harbour around the same RM170,000 region as the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, and just like its J-badged twin, the C7 PHEV will also be locally assembled (CKD) at Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam.
