GWM Malaysia has opened the order books for its latest hybrid-powered 4×4 SUV, the GWM Tank 300 HEV, in conjunction with its first public debut at the inaugural Penang Autoshow 2026.
Already launched in neighbouring Thailand way back in 2023, the Tank 300 HEV is about to make its long-awaited debut into the Malaysian market soon, where the hybrid SUV will be one of the many new models set to be launched by the Chinese automaker in the near future.
More Powerful Than The Current Petrol Version
While the Thais get their Tank 300 in both petrol and diesel options, Malaysians were previously limited to the former version of this 4×4 SUV, which is rated at 220 PS and 380 Nm.
For the upcoming HEV version, however, the Tank 300 HEV is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor and a nine-speed hybrid automatic transmission to deliver a more handsome combined output of 346 PS and 648 Nm.

Not to be confused with other rugged hybrid SUVs, the Tank 300 HEV is still a proper 4×4, as not only does it underpin the same ladder-frame construction as the petrol version, the hybrid also gets a full-time four-wheel-drive system with front and rear locking differentials.
Other off-roading bits primed to this hybrid SUV include the all-terrain progress control with seven modes, a tank turn mode, a crawl control mode with a 66% max climbing degree, and a maximum water wading depth of 700 mm.
Same Looks & Amenities
Although no final specs were given, we can expect the Malaysian-spec Tank 300 HEV to match its full petrol twin, featuring a practical yet posh cabin with a five-seater layout.
Expect the HEV version to offer premium cabin amenities such as plush faux Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seats with driver’s side massage, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lights, and a full panoramic sunroof, along with an auto parking function and new mobile app support.
The latter allows users to remotely access some of their car’s functions, including remote lock/unlock, pre-conditioning, vehicle status monitor, and many more.

While order books for the new GWM Tank 300 HEV have already opened, GWM Malaysia has yet to announce any indicative pricing or tentative launch dates for their new hybrid SUV. With the petrol version already retailing at RM250,000 and its larger HEV sibling, the GWM Tank 500 HEV, going higher at RM328,800, it is safe to expect the Tank 300 HEV to be priced between those two models.
