Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) today announced that the updated 2026 model year (2026 MY) version of the Volvo EX90 is bound for the Malaysian market soon, with its registration of interest (ROI) now able to be made at VCM’s official website.

In conjunction with this ROI commencement, VCM also announced that the first 100 customers who place an order on the new EX90 will be rewarded with special early bird benefits, with further information set to be shared soon.

Flagship EV SUV with New 800-Volt Architecture

Unlike the outgoing EX90 that debuted back in 2025, the upcoming 2026 MY EX90 underpins the updated version of Volvo’s SPA2 platform, which now features a new 800-volt battery architecture—the same one featured on its ES90 flagship EV saloon.

Besides the new platform, VCM has also indirectly confirmed that the upcoming 2026 MY EX90 will arrive in the top-spec Twin Motor All-Wheel-Drive variant, featuring a dual-motor AWD setup capable of delivering up to 680 hp and 870 Nm.

Volvo claims this setup is good enough to propel this large EV SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, with the Swedish marque highlighting the new 800-volt architecture’s reduced overall weight and improved sustainability through a lower copper dependency, all helping to achieve this feat.

The 800-volt platform also enables the EX90 to support a higher peak DC fast charging (DCFC) rate of up to 350 kW, which is an upgrade from the previous version’s 250 kW DCFC rate.

Safest Volvo EV SUV Ever, Inside and Out

Another key highlight for the updated EX90 is safety, where the EV SUV reinforces Volvo’s mission to make road safety a shared responsibility, setting a new benchmark for car safety.

Core to this is a streamlined, highly responsive safety shield powered by a core computer, which Volvo says can ensure exceptional active safety during the drive.

As for the safety of the occupants inside, the new EX90 features several intuitive sensing systems that can seamlessly read the cabin environment, ensuring the car steps in only when you need it most to deliver absolute peace of mind on the journeys that matter.

“As a human-centric automaker, our approach to every decision and engineering design is simple: people always come first,” stated Chris Wailes, managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia.

“The Volvo EX90 reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and our responsibility to uphold the trust people place in us, delivering a Selamat driving experience defined by confidence, integrity, and quiet luxury,” Chris added.

7-Seater Variant Only?

From its official announcement, VCM indirectly stated that the upcoming 2026 MY EX90 will only be available in a 7-seater form, meaning that the updated version will be less likely to arrive in a more luxurious 6-seater form offered in other overseas markets.

Prior to this, VCM MD Chris Wailes hinted at the possibility of bringing in the 6-seater version of the EX90 as a viable alternative to the China-only Volvo EM90 flagship EV MPV, which is essentially a Volvo-fied version of the Zeekr 009 EV MPV.

Given the recent popularity of Chinese premium EV MPVs in Malaysia, having a 6-seater EX90 seems like a reasonable move, although it seems less likely now. But what do you guys think? Could a 6-seater Volvo EX90 work against the flock of luxurious Chinese peoplemovers?
