After the surprising teaser and the subsequent price leaks, UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has finally launched its first EV trio in Malaysia—the 2026 Toyota bZ4X, the Toyota Urban Cruiser, and the Toyota Hilux BEV.
All three EVs are offered in a single variant, and their respective on-the-road (OTR) prices sans insurance are as listed below:
- 2026 Toyota bZ4X FWD – RM220,000
- 2026 Toyota Urban Cruiser EV – RM198,000
- 2026 Toyota Hilux BEV – RM226,300

Both the bZ4X and Urban Cruise come with a 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and a separate 8-year unlimited mileage warranty for the battery and related EV drivetrain components. The Hilux BEV, on the other hand, gets a shorter 5-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, while its battery gets a separate 8-year warranty with options to extend to nine or ten years.

2026 bZ4X Facelift (RM220,000) – UMWT’s First Flagship EV
Billed as Toyota Malaysia’s new flagship EV SUV, the local-spec bZ4X is based on the facelifted version that recently made its debut in Thailand at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2026) last month.
The particular Malaysian unit is still fully imported (CBU) from Japan, where it still underpins the same e-TNGA platform as the pre-facelift model that was previewed in Malaysia a few years ago, albeit there are some changes in its powertrain setup.

The single FWD variant offered here is powered by a 227 PS and 269 Nm-rated electric motor, which draws its power from a 73.1-kWh NMC-type battery pack that is good for up to 525 km of WLTP range.

Despite the increased capacity, the facelifted bZ4X continues to support up to 150 kW of DC fast charging and up to 22 kW of AC charging, with the former enabling the NMC pack to be charged from 10 to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
Visually, the facelifted bZ4X looks pretty similar to its predecessor, still featuring Toyota’s signature “hammerhead” front face with new C-shaped LED DRLs. What’s new here are the gloss black finish on its wheel arches to give the SUV a distinct two-tone finish, new 20-inch alloy wheels, and a total of five exterior colourways available, namely Attitude Black Mica, Dark Blue Mica, Platinum White Pearl, Precious Metal, and Emotional Red II.
Dimension-wise, the bZ4X spans 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, thus slotting it between both the Proton e.MAS 7 EV and the BYD Sealion 7. Some interior bits primed for this EV SUV include the following:
- 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- 7-inch digital metre cluster
- 15-watt Qi wireless charger + multiple USB-C ports
- Powered & ventilated front seats
- Dual-zone A/C with dedicated rear vents + Panasonic nanoe X air ionisation
- Panoramic glass roof
- 360-degree camera system + front & rear dashcam
- 452-litre boot space
- Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) Level 2 ADAS suite
2026 Urban Cruiser EV (RM198,000) – Indian-Made Electric B-SUV
Next in line is the smaller Urban Cruiser, which is described as the brand’s new electric B-segment SUV and currently UMWT’s smallest and most affordable EV. Unlike the bZ4X, the local-spec Urban Cruiser EV is a CBU unit from India, sharing its bones with the Suzuki eVitara that was originally developed for the Indian market.
The similarities start in its powertrain setup, where the Malaysian-spec Urban Cruiser comes with a single FWD motor rated at 174 PS and 193 Nm of twist. Power is drawn from a 61.1-kWh LFP battery pack that provides up to 426 km of WLTP range, while its max charging rates are at 70 kW (DC) and 7 kW (AC).
On the design front, this B-SUV carries some familiar Toyota design cues, including the same “hammerhead” front face seen on the bZ4X. Some other key design cues include hidden rear door handles a la Honda e:N1/HR-V, full-width LED taillights, a ‘floating’ roof, 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and four colour options—Pearl Arctic White, Land Breeze Green, Grandeur Grey, and Pearl Bluish Black.
Measuring 4,285 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,640 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, the Urban Cruiser is actually smaller than other electric B-SUVs such as the BYD Atto 2 and Chery Omoda E5.
Inside, the Urban Cruiser gets a pretty funky cabin setup featuring a unique two-tone black and brown upholstery with tons of physical buttons and controls. Some key amenities provided here include:
- 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- 10.25-inch digital metre cluster
- Wireless charger + USB ports
- JBL audio system
- 12-colour ambient lights
- Sunroof with a manual sunshade
- 360-degree camera view system
- 310-litre boot space (no powered tailgate)

2026 Hilux BEV (RM226,300) – First 9th-Gen Hilux Variant in Malaysia
Last but not least is the Hilux BEV, which is not only UMWT’s first all-electric pick-up truck, but also the first variant of the 9th-gen Hilux (Travo) to arrive here in Malaysia.
Still riding on the same Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) ladder frame chassis as the previous Hilux, the new Hilux BEV features the same powertrain setup seen on its Thai twin, the Toyota Hilux Travo-e.
Two electric motors are available here, with the front unit rated at 112 PS and 205 Nm, while the rear one outputs 176 PS and 268 Nm. While these figures sound promising on paper, this all-electric setup does hamper some of its capabilities, including a reduced payload capacity of just 750 kg and a much lower towing capacity of only 1.6 tonnes over the usual 3.5 tonnes.
Having said that, the Hilux BEV still features the same 212 mm ground clearance and 700 mm of maximum water wading depth as the other versions, with the Diamond Shield battery cage enabling it to shrug off damage from rocks or debris when off-roading.

Despite being the largest model of the three, the Hilux BEV gets the smallest battery out of the trio, with its NMC unit boasting a mere 59.2-kWh capacity, which is only good for up to 315 km of NEDC range, or about 240 km on the more strict WLTP standards.
Charging-wise, this EV truck supports both 10 kW AC and 125 kW DC charging methods, with the latter enabling a 10-80% charge to be completed in about 30 minutes.
Visually, the local-spec Hilux BEV looks similar to its Thai counterpart, albeit missing the Travo-e branding. Some key highlights include an enclosed front grille with Toyota lettering, sharp LED headlights, 17-inch two-tone wheels with aero spoke design, and three exterior colourways—Ash, Platinum White Pearl, and Super White II.
On board, the new Hilux BEV gets the same Land Cruiser Prado/250-esque cabin setup as the Thai-spec Hilux Travo-e, with key highlights including:
- 12.3-inch infotainment with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- 12.3-inch digital metre cluster
- Toyota Remote mobile app support
- Qi wireless charger + multiple USB ports
- Dual-zone A/C with dedicated rear vents
- Multi-Terrain System (MTS) drive mode selector (Dirt, Mud, Rock, Sand, Moguls)
- Eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
- SoftTex faux leather upholstery
- 360-degree camera system with Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) off-road view
- TSS Level 2 ADAS Suite
