National automaker Perodua has voiced its support towards the Malaysian government, particularly the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), for its reaffirmation of the country’s automotive investment and sector policies through its statement made in response to the recent BYD CKD plan issue.
In a separate release, both the Perodua Suppliers Association (P2SA) and Perodua Dealers Association (PDA) have also expressed its full support towards MITI’s recent statement, applauding the government’s commitment to a clear policy for the automotive industry.
P2 Supports NAP’s Guidance & NxGV Vision
In its release, Perodua stated that the National Automotive Policy (NAP) has allowed the local automotive industry’s ecosystem to be further strengthened, as it has provided “significant economic spillover” that has “ultimately fostered shared prosperity for all stakeholders.”
This includes long-term sustainable employment, investments in infrastructure, human capital enrichment, research and development (R&D), commitment towards technology and technical sharing, as well as development of local entrepreneurs involving local vendors and dealers.

As the local automotive industry is now transitioning towards the new energy vehicle (NEV) territory, the NAP’s Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) vision will help Malaysians see greater value and innovation in mobility that would benefit a majority of Malaysians.
Such benefits include a wider range of services offered by the players that suit customer preferences and add-on mobility services such as enhanced safety and mobile integration features leveraging internet technology.
P2SA, PDA Welcomes MITI’s ‘Non-Discriminatory’ EV CKD Conditions
As for both P2SA and PDA, they applauded MITI’s firm stance on its non-discriminatory conditions for high-volume local assembly (CKD) of EVs, which is applicable consistently across all brands regardless of their country of origin.
With these strict conditions and regulations, P2SA says it will ensure that the growth of the local EV sector does not come at the expense of the existing local ecosystem.

“Our members are ready, eager, and will continue to embrace the transition to e-mobility. MITI’s stance protects the years of investment we have poured into local industrial capacity and technology while encouraging new players to integrate with Malaysian suppliers,” the P2SA official statement reads.
The association added that this approach will ensure that ‘local assembly’ translates into “genuine high-value economic spillover for Malaysians,” rather than just a final-touch process.
It went further by stating that NAP will strengthen the supply chain that encourages global brands to collaborate with local vendors, ensure fair competition by maintaining a balanced market where all high-volume players contribute equally to national industrial goals, and safeguard the livelihood of thousands of skilled workers within the current automotive vendor framework.
