Following its global debut at the Auto China 2026 motor show last month, the next-gen BYD Atto 3 has finally made its official market debut in China, locally known as the Yuan Plus.
Available in four variants, this second-gen EV SUV gains a series of BYD’s latest technologies, including its updated e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, the second-gen ‘Blade’ battery technology with Flash Charging, and many more.
Better Range, Much Faster Charging
The new BYD e-Platform 3.0 Evo that the Atto 3 underpins not only grants this popular EV SUV some of the brand’s latest and greatest tech feats but also features a new rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout.
Depending on the variant, the new rear-mounted e-motor produces either 272 PS (200 kW) or 326 PS (240 kW), with the former being mated to a smaller 57.5-kWh battery pack for 540 km of CLTC range, while the latter getting a larger 68.5-kWh unit that provides up to 630 km of CLTC range, BYD claims.

Regardless of capacities, both battery packs are from BYD’s new second-gen ‘Blade’ LFP battery that features the cutting-edge Flash Charging technology, where a 10% to 70% charge would only take five minutes for all variants at speeds of up to 1,500 kW.

To go with its new RWD layout, BYD has also upgraded the Atto 3, where it now features a new front MacPherson and rear five-link independent suspension setup, and they are complemented by the company’s own DiSus-C intelligent damping body control and the iTAC 2.0 torque control for improved driving dynamics.
Bigger & Slightly Refreshed Exterior
Visually, the next-gen Atto 3 gets several design upgrades while retaining the same “Dragon Face” design language.
Up front, the new Atto 3 gets a flatter front face with slimmer LED headlights flanking its grill-less front nose, plus a redesigned front bumper with more prominent side air curtains and a lower air intake.

Also new here are the semi-flushed door handles, redesigned full-width LED taillights, the new five-spoke wheel design, and up to nine exterior colourways, including Fantasy Pink, Trendy Blue, and many more.

The next-gen redux also sees the Atto 3 bulking up slightly, with the EV SUV now measuring 4,665 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, and 1,675 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm.
Improved Interior with New ADAS Tech
Inside, the new Atto 3 boasts several improvements over its predecessor, such as a new central floating display, a new two-spoke steering wheel with a heating function, a head-up display (HUD), a 50-watt wireless charger, a new “Queen Seat” front passenger seat with leg support, a refrigerated central console storage, and many more.

And thanks to its bulk up, this EV SUV is now more practical than ever, featuring a sizable 750-litre boot space and even an extra 180-litre frunk for added practicality.

On the safety front, buyers in China can opt for the new Atto 3 with BYD’s DiPilot 300 “God’s Eye B” advanced driver-assistance system, featuring a Lidar and up to 30 sensing units, enabling the EV SUV to support both highway and urban navigation assist.
China Now, Europe Later, Malaysia When?
The next-gen BYD Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) retails from CNY 119,900 (RM69,800) for the entry-level 540 KM Leading and going up to CNY 149,900 (RM87,260) for the top-spec 630 KM Excellence.
As of now, it is unclear whether the new Atto 3 will make it to our local market, but the automaker previously confirmed that the European market will be getting a new Evo variant of this EV SUV that also features an RWD powertrain but lacks the Flash Charging technology unlike its Chinese counterpart.
So folks, what do you think of the next-gen BYD Atto 3? Keen to see this ultra fast-charging EV SUV coming to our local market in the near future?
