Local BYD brand distributor BYD Sime Motors has unveiled the new BYD Mansion Macalister showroom as a “distinctive new electric mobility destination” in Penang.
Located along the historic Jalan Macalister on Penang Island, this century-old building now houses BYD Mansion Macalister, after a meticulous restoration and adaptive reuse process that transformed it into Malaysia’s first BYD heritage-concept showroom.
Old Heritage, New Energy
Set on a 26,994 sq ft parcel of land with approximately 9,000 sq ft of built-up space, this century-old building has been reimagined as a boutique showroom for BYD while featuring familiar amenities with some heritage touches.
The whole complex comprises four curated display vehicles, which are presented within a gallery-like setting while being complemented by lounge-style consultation areas and a private delivery room.
Besides the display area, the BYD Mansion Macalister also serves as a fully integrated 3S centre, with the on-site service centre housing five work bays, one alignment bay, and three service reception bays, providing customers with convenient access to after-sales care all within one compound.
And just like many other BYD centres in Malaysia, the BYD Mansion Macalister also features a dedicated EV charging hub that is made of one 60 kW DC fast charger and seven AC chargers, offering convenient charging access for electric vehicle owners.
A Synthesis of Heritage Architecture & Modern Innovation.
According to BYD Sime Motors, the BYD Mansion Macalister restoration project aims to preserve and honour the building’s “distinctive architectural character while introducing a contemporary retail environment designed around the future of electric mobility.”

By transforming a historic property into a modern electric mobility destination, we are not only preserving an important part of Penang’s architectural heritage but also creating a meaningful space where customers can experience the future of mobility,” said Andrew Basham, Managing Director of Sime Motors.
The launch of this new BYD Mansion Macalister also marks another significant milestone in the partnership between Sime Motors and BYD’s partnership, which began in Dec 2022. Today, the company operates an extensive network of retail and service centres across Malaysia, including Ara Damansara, TREC Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Tebrau, and more.
