We’re continuing our long-due 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS 2026) coverage with the launch of an all-new model from Toyota in Thailand, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ.
First revealed in late 2025, the new Land Cruiser FJ now stands as the smallest SUV to bear the iconic Land Cruiser nameplate, featuring a single 2.7-litre 4WD petrol variant in Thailand priced from THB 1.269 million (RM157,785).
Petrol 4WD Variant Only
The single petrol variant in question features a 2.7-litre 4-cyl 2TR-FE naturally-aspirated engine rated at 166 PS and 245 Nm, which is then mated to a six-speed conventional automatic gearbox with sequential shift.

Underpinning the same IMV0 body-on-frame platform as the Toyota Hilux Champ (or Hilux Rangga in Indonesia), the Land Cruiser FJ sports a part-time four-wheel drive (4WD) with low range and a user-selectable knob borrowed from the Hilux.
Unlike many other boxy SUVs nowadays, the new FJ is a proper off-roader, with Toyota saying that extensive off-road testing has been done with one to test out its performance and durability. Compared to the Hilux Champ, the FJ does get an extra chassis treatment to increase its body rigidity plus additional underfloor bracing for better handling.
Boxy Compact 4×4 SUV with Familiar Cabin Layout
Design-wise, the new Land Cruiser FJ stays true to its LC roots, featuring a traditional boxy SUV bodystyle with some quirky modern design bits scattered around it.
Some key highlights include rectangular headlights with C-shaped DRLs, a Toyota inscription on the front grille a la Land Cruiser Prado 250, flared-out fenders with plastic underbody cladding, thick C-pillars, side steps, a side-opening tailgate with a spare tyre, and many more.

To give the Thais some idea to jazz up their LC FJs, Toyota has also showcased several concepts based on the new FJ, including a hardcore adventure-ready one known as the Land Cruiser FJ Meridian Concept that features a raised intake snorkel, a full roof rack, rugged all-terrain tyres, and many more.

The Prado similarities continue inside the Land Cruiser FJ, where this compact 4×4 SUV gets the same front dash setup seen on both its larger twin and the aforementioned Hilux Champ.
Key bits include a boxy three-spoke steering wheel with Toyota inscription, a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a smaller 7-inch digital metre cluster, dual-zone A/C, black synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way powered driver’s seat, multiple USB-C ports, and more.
Thailand First, Japan Next, Malaysia When?
And just like the Toyota Hilux Travo and Hilux Champ, the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will also be assembled in Thailand, with exports to other markets like Japan set to begin sometime later this year.
While its arrival in Japan has already been confirmed, it remains to be seen whether this quirky SUV will ever be making its way into our market, considering demands for a compact 4×4 SUV aren’t as hot as our northern neighbour’s.

Having said that, what do you guys think of the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ? Keen to see UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) bringing in this 4×4 SUV into our market in the near future?
