With the embargo now lifted, we can finally talk about BYD’s upcoming flagship electric estate, the 2026 Denza Z9GT, where we were recently invited to the BYD All-Terrain Test Track in Zhengzhou, China, to check out the final right-hand drive (RHD) spec of this EV wagon.
Already previewed locally in several forms, the Z9GT was long due for a local debut, and it appears that long wait might be worthwhile after all, as Malaysians are poised to get this EV wagon in its latest 2026 update form—the same one debuted in Europe earlier this year.
Triple Motor Setup with BYD’s Flash Charging Tech
Debuted globally earlier this year, the 2026 model year (2026MY) version of the Z9GT features a series of significant changes, particularly beneath its well-sculpted skin.
For starters, the local-spec Z9GT gets a tri-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that is capable of delivering a combined output of 1,156 PS and 1,210 Nm—enough to make it the most powerful EV model in Malaysia once it debuts. This quad-digit power output enables the Z9GT to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, en route to its limited V-max of 269 km/h.
What’s more impressive is that this EV wagon now underpins BYD’s new 1,000-volt Super e-Platform with the second-gen ‘Blade’ battery pack. With this setup, the 2026 Z9GT can now support the ultra-fast BYD Flash Charging technology with up to 1,500 kW of power, enabling it to be charged from 10 to 70% in only five minutes.
The 2026 update also sees the Z9GT’s battery capacity growing larger to 122.49 kWh over the previous model’s 100-kWh unit, granting it an extended WLTP range of up to 600 km.
Other mechanical bits such as the DiSus-A air suspensions and the rear-axle steering system with up to a 15-degree turning angle are all primed here, with the latter being able to be used together with its independent dual rear motors to enable some trick manoeuvres like crab walking, low-speed drifting, ‘pencil compass’ turns, and many more.
Minor Exterior & Interior Nip-Tuck
Denza’s ‘reluctance’ to call the 2026 Z9GT a facelift is apparent in the visuals, as this updated EV wagon bears very few design changes over the original model that debuted back in 2024 in China.
Still featuring a sleek, grand touring shooting brake bodystyle, some key design changes present here include a new roof-mounted LiDAR unit, new 20-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels with yellow-hued brake callipers, and a dual-wing rear end with an active rear spoiler for better aerodynamics.
Also being confirmed are the exterior colour options, where Malaysians can only choose from two colours—Rime Gold and Obsidian Black—although other options such as the striking Emerald Green may arrive sometime later in the future.
While it may not look—or drive—like so, the Z9GT is a humongous wagon, spanning 5,180 mm long, 1,990 mm wide, and 1,490 mm tall with a long wheelbase of 3,125 mm. For reference, its German rival, the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo, is slightly smaller in size, measuring 4,963 mm long, 1,966 mm wide, and 1,390 mm tall with a 2,900 mm wheelbase.
The 2026 update is slightly more obvious inside, where the Z9GT gets a revamped cabin setup featuring tons of tech and comfort amenities that are on-par with what you get on the brand’s flagship MPV, the Denza D9.
Some key additions include a new three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel with a ‘Boost’ paddle shifter, a column-mounted gear selector, and a redesigned central console with repositioned physical controls and extra storage, including a built-in chiller under the armrest.
Not to forget, there are three interior colour options available for pick, namely Dark Chocolate with Red Velvet, Dark Chocolate with Perg Beige, and Full Black with black suede seats.
Other amenities provided here are largely carried over from the previous version, including:
- 17.3-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 12.3-inch digital metre cluster with an expansive 50-inch AR-HUD
- 12.3-inch third display for the front passenger
- 9.1-inch digital rear-view mirror
- 6-inch LCD screen for rear passengers
- Powered front and rear seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions
- Dual 50-watt wireless chargers
- Multiple USB-C ports
- 20-speaker Devialet premium audio system
- Electric-operated doors with soft-closing functions
- 495-litre rear trunk + 53-litre ‘frunk’
Coming to Malaysia in July 2026, ROI Opens
Prior to this embargo lift, Denza Malaysia has already opened the registration of interest (ROI) for the new 2026 Denza Z9GT via an announcement made on its official social media channels and website.
As of now, neither Denza Malaysia nor BYD Malaysia has announced the indicative pricing for this EV wagon, which we’ve been told will be fully imported (CBU) from China, and Malaysia is also poised to become one of the first markets outside of China to get them.
For reference, the 2026 Z9GT starts from €115,000 (RM536,923) for the fully electric version in Europe, so you better start saving up if you fancy getting one. As of now, the newly-launched Denza B8 stands as the most expensive Denza/BYD model on sale in Malaysia, retailing at RM458,800 for the 7-seater version and RM518,800 for the top-spec six-seater variant.
