PMX Assures Malaysia’s Fuel Supply to Remain Stable until July 2026

Malaysia’s fuel supply is expected to remain stable until July this year amidst the ongoing tension in the Strait of Hormuz that has affected the global fuel supply chain.

This was assured by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said the government has successfully acquired an adequate supply of crude oil and diesel fuel thanks to the good relationship between Malaysia and Iran.

“At 6pm this evening (26 May), Insya-Allah, Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian will call me on the phone. This good relationship has helped ensure adequate oil supply till now. We say till July, Insya-Allah, diesel is enough,” Anwar told TV3 at the Hari Raya Aidiladha ceremony in Seberang Jaya, Penang.

Among the steps taken by the government to ensure an adequate fuel supply include diplomatic cooperation that has helped the country’s ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Subsidised RON95 Price Remains at RM1.99 for Now

PMX also added that although there has been a slight increase in prices of goods due to the increase in insurance and freight costs following the conflict in the Middle East, the government is insisting on keeping the subsidised RON95 price at RM1.99.

“As far as we can, RON 95 petrol is maintained at RM1.99 per litre. Malaysia is one of the countries that has successfully offered fuel at among the lowest prices in the region,” he commented, adding that the government is also offering diesel subsidies for farmers, fishermen, tractor operators, school buses, and public transportation.

Speaking of fuel prices, the latest fuel price update for May 28 to June 3 saw both petrol and diesel prices going down—10 sen down for B10 and B20 diesel (RM4.87 per litre), 15 sen down for unsubsidised RON95 petrol (RM3.92 per litre), and 20 sen less for RON97 petrol (RM4.65 per litre).
