Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), a subsidiary of Proton, has just completed the handover of three Proton e.MAS vehicles to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Held at PDRM’s headquarters in Bukit Aman, this handover is part of the organisation’s evaluation of the usability and suitability of electrified vehicles across different fleet and operational requirements.

Proton e.MAS NEVs for PDRM

The three vehicles in question were the Proton e.MAS 5 Premium, Proton e.MAS 7 Premium, and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV Premium Plus, giving PDRM the opportunity to experience different electrified vehicle configurations and assess their usability under real-world conditions.

According to PRO-NET, this evaluation will cover aspects including drivability, practicality and charging requirements, providing PDRM with practical insights into how electrified vehicles may fit its fleet needs.

For PDRM, the evaluation provides an opportunity for its officers to gain practical experience with different electrified vehicle technologies while gathering feedback from their usage of the vehicles. The insights gathered will support PDRM in understanding how EV and PHEV technology may fit into its fleet requirements.

“This evaluation with PDRM is a good opportunity for us to put our e.MAS vehicles into a real-world environment and allow the team to experience them beyond a conventional test drive. With the e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV, PDRM can experience different electrified powertrain options and assess how they perform and fit into their operational requirements,” said Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid bin Musa, Deputy CEO of Proton.

Charging Solutions Provided by Gentari

In a bid to support PDRM’s electrification evaluation, top local charging operator Gentari will also be providing complimentary charging for all three Proton e.MAS vehicles throughout the evaluation period.

“We understand that transitioning to EVs, particularly for a large fleet, involves more than just the vehicles themselves. It is also about understanding daily usage, performance and charging requirements. We are pleased to support PDRM through this evaluation, which will provide valuable insights into the usability and suitability of electrified vehicles for their requirements,” Proton’s DCEO added.

Looking ahead, Proton e.MAS vehicles could potentially support PDRM’s routine operational duties, including crime-prevention patrols, subject to the outcome of the evaluation and future government considerations.
