Honda CR-V 2026 Japan

HONDA officially launched the sixth-generation Honda CR-V for the Japanese market on 27 February 2026, bringing with it a significant leap forward in comfort and driving performance.

While the sixth-generation Honda CR-V has already been on sale in many countries, Japan is only now receiving it.

What makes this even more interesting is that Japan actually got the hydrogen fuel cell variant — the Honda CR-V e:FCEV — back in 2024, before the standard CR-V even arrived on its shores.

The Honda CR-V needs little introduction. Since its debut in 1995, the popular SUV has shifted over 15 million units worldwide.

Exterior Design and Interior

The new Honda CR-V wears a more assertive and energetic look. Clean horizontal lines run across the bonnet and pillars, projecting a sense of maturity and premium refinement.

The iconic vertical tail lights remain — a signature CR-V trait — though the lamp cluster on the rear door and the number plate recess have been repositioned higher, giving the rear end a more planted, stable appearance.

Inside, the cabin takes on a sharper, more structured character with a horizontal instrument panel and clean, straight trim lines that reinforce the CR-V’s premium SUV identity.

The placement of the instrument panel and front door trims has been carefully considered to help drivers better gauge the vehicle’s width and positioning — resulting in a sporty yet cohesive cockpit that strengthens the bond between driver and machine.

Space and Maximum Comfort

Honda has also enhanced the interior package while staying true to the Honda CR-V’s DNA of being easy to drive across all road conditions.

The steering angle has been revised from 28° to 25°, enabling a more upright and ergonomic driving position.

For rear passengers, legroom has been extended by 16mm over the previous model — putting it among the most generous in its class.

The rear seats also feature an 8-position reclining backrest for added comfort on longer journeys.

The boot floor is flat with a wide opening, while rear cargo capacity can be further expanded through the sliding rear seat mechanism.

Powertrain

Unlike the local CR-V which offers both a 1.5L turbocharged engine and a 2.0L hybrid, the Japanese CR-V comes exclusively in a single hybrid configuration.

The 4th-generation e:HEV system pairs a 2.0L petrol engine with a dual-motor electric setup.

The combination delivers strong, responsive performance without compromising on efficiency — striking a fine balance between punchy acceleration and impressive fuel savings across varying driving conditions.

The system is further backed by an upgraded all-wheel drive (AWD) setup, where rear torque distribution can now be split up to 50:50 — improved from the previous 60:40 — for exceptional stability on wet or snowy surfaces.

Engine: LFC2 1,993cc Inline 4-cylinder DOHC Petrol
Engine Power Output: 148ps @ 6,100rpm | 183Nm @ 4,500rpm
Electric Motor: H6-type AC Synchronous Motor
Electric Motor Power: 135kW (184ps) @ 5,000–8,000rpm
Electric Motor Torque: 335Nm @ 0–2,000rpm
Battery: Lithium-ion, 72 cells
Transmission: Electric e-CVT with direct engine gear ratios of 1.409 (low) and 0.707 (high)
AWD System: Rear torque distribution improved to up to 50:50, from the previous 60:40
Drive Modes: SPORT, NORMAL, ECON, SNOW and INDIVIDUAL
Fuel Tank Capacity: 57 litres

Driving Dynamics and Cabin Quietness

The CR-V uses Frequency Responsive Dampers (FRD) across all variants for optimal ride absorption at every speed.

Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) steering ensures a light, effortless feel at low speeds while remaining composed and stable at highway pace.

On cabin refinement, Honda has fitted Noise Reducing tyres alongside an Active Noise Control (ANC) system that actively cancels out external road noise before it reaches the cabin.

Additionally, a shutter grille at the front actively manages airflow to strike the right balance between engine cooling and aerodynamic performance.

Honda SENSING 360 Safety Technology

Despite arriving late to Japan, the Honda CR-V there comes with something no other market gets — the full Honda SENSING 360 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

While other markets make do with the standard Honda SENSING suite, the Honda CR-V e:HEV RS Black Edition takes exclusivity a step further by being the only CR-V variant globally to feature this advanced 360-degree system.

The system expands the detection zone through additional corner sensors and wide-angle cameras, enabling Front Cross Traffic Warning (FCTW), Lane Departure Assist (LDA), and Active Steering Control (ASC).

Honda CR-V Pricing in Japan

The Honda CR-V 2026 in Japan is offered at the following prices:

  • Honda e:HEV RS (FF) — 5,122,700 yen (RM127,720)
  • Honda e:HEV RS (4WD) — 5,392,200 yen (RM134,428)
