Following a series of previews, the long-awaited GWM Ora 5 HEV is edging closer to its official Malaysian debut, following the rollout of its first locally assembled (CKD) unit from the EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) plant in Pegoh, Melaka.
This upcoming hybrid-powered B-segment crossover is set to make its Malaysian debut later this month, where order books for one have been opened since Oct 2026 with a tentative price tag of below RM115,000.
Fourth GWM Model Assembled by EPMB
The commencement of Ora 5 HEV’s local assembly makes this cutesy hybrid crossover the fourth GWM model to be assembled by EPMB, with the other three being the Haval H6 HEV, the Wey G9 PHEV, and the recently-launched Wey G9 HEV.
To date, more than 10,000 GWM vehicles have been assembled at the EPMB Melaka plant, with over 1,100 units of locally-built Wey G9 MPVs exported to Thailand and Indonesia.
“The rollout of our first locally assembled GWM Ora 5 Hi2 HEV is an exciting milestone ahead of its Malaysian launch. Combining performance, efficiency, design, and practicality, we believe it will offer customers more than they expect from a compact hybrid SUV,” said Stan Li Hao, managing director, commercial operations at GWM Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Roslan Abdullah, COO of GWM Malaysia, added, “Local assembly helps make GWM’s latest technologies more accessible to Malaysians. The GWM Ora 5 Hi2 HEV builds on four years of portfolio expansion and growing local capabilities, and we look forward to introducing it to Malaysian customers.”
Ora 5 HEV to Debut in Nov 2026
With its local assembly works already begun, GWM Malaysia also confirms that the much-anticipated Ora 5 HEV is slated to make its Malaysian market debut later this month.
No specific dates were mentioned for now, but the company did say that it will be priced below RM115,000, thus putting it quite competitively within Malaysia’s growing B-segment SUV market space.
Some key competitors within this segment include Chery Tiggo Cross Hybrid (RM99,800), Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid (RM109,900), and Nissan Kicks e-Power (from RM113,800), to name a few.
Special Fourth Anniversary Rewards & Models
In a separate story GWM Malaysia is celebrating its fourth anniversary by offering customers the chance to win the all-new Ora 5 HEV in an exclusive grand lucky draw contest.
Customers who purchase any new GWM vehicle in Nov and Dec 2026 will be granted an entry to this special lucky draw, and the winner will be announced later in Jan 2027. Besides the Ora 5 HEV grand prize, separate month lucky draws in Nov and Dec will also be available, with a combined prize pool of up to RM100,000 presented.
Lucky draws aside, GWM Malaysia is also introducing special anniversary editions of the Haval H6 HEV and Tank 500, both featuring distinctive black finishes, selected exterior enhancements, and added convenience through telematics features.
