Chery Malaysia today announced the commencement of registration of interest (ROI) for its upcoming flagship premium SUV, the Chery Tiggo 9.
Customers who are interested in this three-row SUV can register their interest via Chery Malaysia’s official website, where it will be available in a single 2.0T AWD variant, not the semi-electrified plug-in hybrid version shown in China last year.
Only Full Combustion Variant For Now
As mentioned earlier, only the 2.0T AWD variant of the Tiggo 9 is open for ROI on Chery Malaysia’s website, although we’d reckon the PHEV could be offered at a later date.
Hiding beneath the T9’s bonnet is the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine used on the Tiggo 8 Pro, which is also mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox to deliver 256 PS and 390 Nm.
Unlike the T8, however, the Tiggo 9 gets Chery’s own intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that features up to seven driving modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road. Safety is also top-notch for the T9, featuring up to 23 ADAS functions and 10 airbags.
Bigger & More Spacious Than Tiggo 8
Given its position as the true flagship model in Chery’s Tiggo lineup, the upcoming Tiggo 9 is larger than the Tiggo 8, spanning 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,741 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm.
This makes the T9 88 mm longer and 65 mm wider than the T8, and its bulkier size also translates to larger 20-inch wheels it rolls on, one size up from the T8’s 19-inch units.
Still featuring a 7-seater configuration with a 2-3-2 layout like the Tiggo 8, the upcoming Tiggo 9 features several additional tech and luxury amenities over any other Tiggo SUVs.
Some new amenities highlighted by Chery Malaysia include a 15.6-inch 2K UHD touchscreen powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, a clear head-up display (HUD), massage functions for the ventilated front seats, a 14-speaker Sony audio system with headrest speakers, and many more.
