Back in Black: 2026 Proton X50 Gets Quartz Black Colour Option as Standard

National automaker Proton has introduced the new Quartz Black exterior colourway for its popular B-segment SUV, the 2026 Proton X50 facelift.

This all-black get-go was previously offered to the X50 in the limited-run X50 Black Edition, but demand for said special model was so encouraging and positive that P1 has decided to make the black colourway a standard colour option across all X50 variants starting this April.

More importantly, buyers don’t need to fork out extra dough for this new colourway, with base prices remaining unchanged across all variants, starting from RM89,800 for the base Executive, RM101,800 for the mid-spec Premium, and RM113,300 for the range-topping Flagship.

In with the Black, Out with the Red

With the Quartz Black now becoming a standard option for the facelifted X50, Proton has decided to drop the Passion Red colourway in order to make space for it. As a result, Passion Red is no longer available in any of P1’s current models, as said option was also being replaced by Ruby Red in the recently-updated S70 MC1.

Now that the X50 is back in black permanently (for now), the available exterior colour options for this popular B-SUV now include Armour Silver, Snow White, Jet Grey, Teal Bayou Green, and Quartz Black.

From the official images, the new Quartz Black seems like the best option for those who want to mask the X50 Flagship’s overtly-styled gloss black-hued aero parts while at the same time increasing the exclusivity of this B-SUV since the option was previously offered in a limited run.

Helps to Increase Resale Value?

In its official release, Proton highlighted that the new Quartz Black colourway might also help with the resale value for the X50 facelift, pointing out that the black colour carries a practical appeal and is “widely regarded as a safe choice in the resale market and often retaining desirability across different buyer groups.”

Nevertheless, the national market hoped that the new black option would further expand the popularity of the X50 facelift, with said model already leading the B-segment SUV market space this year with 7,571 units sold in the first three months of 2026, following a stellar sales record of 3,265 units sold in March alone.

“The Proton X50 is the company’s spearhead for its SUV range and has been an unprecedented success since its introduction in 2020. The success is built on the quality of the product and understanding of customer needs, so the introduction of Quartz Black as a colour option, and the continued emphasis on customer experience are prime examples of our ethos,” said Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, CEO of Proton Edar.
