AUDI Sport has introduced its new premium performance compact, the 2026 Audi RS 5 — and it is the first high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to emerge from the division.
The model combines RS racing DNA with carefully tuned hybrid technology, delivering driving dynamics that span comfortable daily driving all the way to extreme circuit performance.
The 2026 Audi RS 5 adopts a more muscular stance with dimensions 90mm wider than the standard A5. Up front, the design is dominated by a three-dimensional (3D) Singleframe grille with a honeycomb pattern and Air Curtain intakes.
Dark Matrix LED headlights feature digital daytime running lights (DRL) with a chequered flag signature theme. At the rear, an aerodynamic diffuser and RS sport exhaust system with matt oval tailpipes complete the sporting image.
639ps Hybrid Powertrain
The heart of the 2026 Audi RS 5 is a modular plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain combining an upgraded 2.9L Twin-Turbo V6 engine with a powerful electric motor.
The internal combustion engine (ICE) now produces 510ps — a gain of 60ps over the previous generation — thanks to a more efficient Miller cycle and two variable geometry turbochargers (VGT).
The electric motor, integrated within an 8-speed hybrid transmission, contributes 130kW (177ps) and 460Nm of torque.
Combined system output stands at 639ps and 825Nm, enabling the Audi RS 5 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
The 400V electrical system is backed by a 25.9kWh battery that enables full electric driving mode and supplies up to 8kW to the torque vectoring unit.
quattro Innovation With Dynamic Torque Control (DTC)
The 2026 Audi RS 5 introduces a quattro system with Dynamic Torque Control (DTC) on the rear transaxle — a world-first technology for a production car.
The electro-mechanical torque vectoring system can distribute torque to the rear wheels in as little as 15 milliseconds. It operates proactively to ensure the perfect balance between agility, stability, and grip, running at a control frequency of 200Hz.
The new centre differential now features a preload function to keep it in a partially locked state at all times, managing front-to-rear torque distribution between 70:30 and 15:85 percent.
This enables faster power distribution, reduces understeer, and delivers more precise steering response — particularly during dynamic weight transfer through corners.
Chassis and RS-Sharp Handling
Body rigidity on the 2026 Audi RS 5 has been increased by 10 percent over the standard model for a more controlled driving feel.
The car uses a fully redesigned five-link suspension at both front and rear, with RS sport suspension featuring dual-valve damper technology that allows rebound and compression control to be managed independently.
The steering has been specifically tuned to a 13:1 ratio for sharper, faster response. For stopping power, the RS 5 is equipped with the iBRS brake system — combining regenerative braking with 20-inch steel disc brakes or optional 21-inch ceramic discs.
The use of ceramic discs on the rear axle is a segment first, enabling a 100 to 0 km/h stopping distance of just 30.6 metres.
Digital Cockpit and Performance Analysis
The cabin of the 2026 Audi RS 5 features the Audi MMI Panoramic Screen setup — combining an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit with a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen infotainment unit built on OLED technology. Front passengers also get a dedicated 10.9-inch screen for navigation and entertainment control.
The Audi Driving Experience feature allows drivers to analyse detailed driving data including pedal input, G-forces, tyre temperature, and battery temperature.
For circuit use, the system can record lap and sector times and automatically create new circuit profiles. A dashcam can also be added to visually record driving sessions.
Audi Sport Package and Exclusivity
For customers seeking additional performance, the Audi Sport package raises the top speed to 285 km/h.
The package includes the exclusive Bedford Green Metallic colour, dual-tone gloss black 21-inch wheels, and the RS sport exhaust with matt black tailpipes.
The interior receives deep black Dinamica upholstery with honeycomb pattern embroidery on the sport seats.
