2026 Honda City Hatchback Facelift Production Commenced at Melaka Plant

Just one week after its booking commencement and less than a month following its sedan twin’s debut, the upcoming 2026 Honda City Hatchback facelift has officially begun production at Honda Malaysia’s plant in Pegoh, Melaka.

This production rollout was witnessed by Noriyuki Shikata, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, while also serving as the first public appearance for this second facelift version of the current-gen City Hatchback.

Same Design Changes

As detailed prior, the new City Hatchback gets the same facelift treatment given to its sedan twin, featuring some significant exterior changes and a series of minor equipment upgrades.

The design changes start with the front fascia, where all variants of the new City Hatchback get the new front face featuring sharp LED headlights with a connecting LED light bar, plus a sleeker front bumper design.

The front fascia is complemented by the new 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels that are now finished in a Berlina Black and Dark Clear, exclusively available for the RS variant.

The facelift treatment slightly fades away at the rear part, where this new hatch gains a more aggressive rear bumper design with diffuser-like design elements finished in matching gloss black for the RS version. Also present here are the albino LED taillights with a smoked tint, while both the RS and e:HEV emblems are reserved for this top-spec variant.

Refreshed Interior, Improved Safety Equipment

The second facelift treatment continues inside the car, where it receives an upgraded front dashboard with a refined 3D pattern mid-garnish and ambient lights. This is complemented by the new 10-inch central touchscreen that now supports the new 360-degree multi-view camera system, plus wireless mobile connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay).

Regarding safety, this compact hatch also gets the same safety equipment upgrades as its sedan twin, including the Blind Spot Information (BSI) and Cross Traffic Monitoring (CTM) functions in its Honda Sensing ADAS suite.

Having said that, other existing ADAS-related functions, particularly the Honda LaneWatch camera, are all still available on the new City Hatchback.

Unchanged Powertrain Specs, Enhanced Warranties

Similarly, buyers can still get the new City Hatchback either with the full combustion i-VTEC powertrain setup or the semi-electrified e:HEV hybrid system.

Focusing on the latter for now, this system uses a 1.5-litre 4-cyl naturally-aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol engine as its core, which is then mated to an electric traction motor rated at 109 PS and 253 Nm, with drive being sent to the front wheels (FWD) via an e-CVT automatic gearbox.

To further enhance ownership experience, Honda Malaysia is offering an extended 10-year unlimited mileage hybrid battery and components warranty to the new City Hatchback, on top of the newly-announced 8-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty.

More importantly, the extended vehicle warranty also applies to all Honda models sold in Malaysia, effective from Sept 1, 2026, onwards.

Significant Milestone for Honda Malaysia’s Plant

Beyond as an introduction to an upcoming model, Honda Malaysia said that this production rollout also marks a significant milestone in the company’s manufacturing journey, which began way back in 2003.

The Melaka manufacturing plant plays a vital role in supporting Hondaʼs operations while driving the development of the local automotive industry, where the company has partnered with approximately 500 local suppliers to form a robust manufacturing ecosystem.

“I commend Honda Malaysia for bringing together Japanese technology, manufacturing know-how, and commitment to quality with Malaysian talent, local suppliers, and industrial capabilities. Honda Malaysia’s commitment to localisation is particularly noteworthy. The company has helped to strengthen local capabilities and expand domestic production by working closely with local suppliers,” Ambassador Shikata said.

Meanwhile, Honda Malaysia managing director and CEO Narushi Yazaki said, “Honda Malaysia has grown alongside this nation, and we are privileged to be part of the deep-rooted relationship between Malaysia and Japan, which spans economy, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges.”

As for the City Hatchback itself, the introduction of this latest version comes after a rather successful stint for this nameplate. Since its introduction in Malaysia back in 2021, Honda Malaysia has delivered over 51,000 units of this compact hatchback, reflecting the modelʼs continued appeal among Malaysian customers.
