The Malaysian government has recently announced that the price of subsidised diesel will be lowered to RM2.10 per litre from RM2.15, starting from July 2026 onwards.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Finance (MoF), this new subsidised price will only be available to Malaysians, and it will be given through a targeted subsidy system that uses MyKad for verification, similar to the method used for the Budi Madani RON 95 scheme.
Subsidised Diesel Price Only for Malaysians
This means that the subsidised diesel prices are no longer restricted to the East Malaysian region and now can be enjoyed by all Malaysians nationwide, where they would be required to use their MyKad as a verification step.
And just like the Budi Madani RON 95 scheme, non-citizens and ineligible parties will have to purchase diesel at the non-subsidised price, as this new subsidised diesel scheme (we coined it ‘Budi Diesel’ for now) will only be applicable to Malaysians.
The new scheme also means that the previous subsidised diesel price of RM2.15 per litre sold in Sabah and Sarawak is no longer available for non-citizens to enjoy, and the price will be adjusted to RM2.10 per litre from July 2026 onwards too.
Aside from the revised price and the new mechanism, further details regarding this new targeted subsidy scheme will be announced later today (June 22) by the Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
