2026 Proton X70 Sport Edition Bookings Opened, Only 600 Units Available

Another day, another new special edition Proton model is set to be launched, this time around being the new 2026 Proton X70 Sport Edition, following in the footsteps of the Proton X50, which previously had a ‘Sport Edition’ version a few years back.

This all-black limited-edition X70 is now open for booking ahead of its first public preview and official price unveiling later on Apr 16, and only 600 units are up for grabs.

Same ‘Sport Edition’ Treatment as the X50

Built upon the Premium variant of the recently-updated X70 MC3, the upcoming X70 Sport Edition will be available exclusively in Quartz Black, making it the latest Proton model to get this colour option, on top of the X50 facelift and the new S70 MC1.

And similar to the original X50 Sport Edition, this limited-edition SUV also gets a slew of sporty bits, including a specially-designed bodykit comprising a front splitter, side skirts, and rear bumper garnishes, with all of them featuring red contrast accents.

Rounding off the exterior upgrades are the 19-inch all-black alloy wheels and exclusive Sport Edition badge on the tailgate.

The Sport Edition treatment continues inside the car, with the Sport Edition emblems being embossed on the front seats, along with more contrasting red accents and stitches around the cabin. One non-sporty addition to the X70 Sport Edition is a boot tray.

No Mechanical Changes, Price Higher Than Regular X70 MC3?

Predictably, the X70 Sport Edition continues to draw its power from the same 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged i-GT engine as the regular X70 MC3, dishing out 181 PS and 290 Nm to the front wheels (FWD) via a 7-speed DCT box.

All in all, Proton says the total enhancements given to the X70 Sport Edition approximately cost RM6,000, but only time will tell whether this would have any effect on the car’s final price, which will be unveiled later this week.

For reference, the regular X70 MC3 Premium retails at RM112,800 inclusive of the RM7,000 launch rebate. And as with the case of the Proton X50 Sport Edition, we can also expect the upcoming X70 Sport Edition to fetch a slight premium over the regular version.
