2026 Volvo EX90 Launched in Malaysia – CKD, 800V, Now From RM428,888

Following the commencement of its registration of interests last month, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has officially launched the updated version of its flagship all-electric SUV, the 2026 Volvo EX90.

For the 2026 model year (2026 MY) update, the new EX90 gets a series of equipment upgrades inside and beneath its well-clad body, including an 800-volt version of the SPA2 platform and many more.

Now locally-assembled (CKD) in Malaysia, the new 2026 Volvo EX90 retails at RM428,888, making it RM14,000 cheaper than the previous fully imported (CBU) version launched last year.

Included with said price is a standard 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and a separate 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, while the first 100 customers who book the car will be entitled to cash rebates worth up to RM25,000, plus a complimentary Volvo Wallbox charger worth RM3,990.

New 800V Platform, Peppier Dual-Motor Setup

As detailed prior, the new 2026 EX90 underpins the updated version of Volvo’s SPA2 platform, which now features a new 800-volt battery architecture—the same one featured on its ES90 flagship EV saloon.

This enables the EV SUV to support a higher peak DC fast charging (DCFC) rate of up to 350 kW, which is an upgrade from the previous version’s 250 kW DCFC rate.

Speaking of battery, the NMC pack capacity has also been dropped from 111 kWh on the previous version to 106 kWh, which also affects its claimed WLTP range of 617 km—a slight drop from 632 km on the previous version.

Besides the new platform, the new EX90, still arriving in the top-spec Twin Motor All-Wheel-Drive form, gets an updated dual-motor AWD setup that is now capable of delivering up to 680 hp and 870 Nm.

Volvo claims this setup is good enough to propel this large EV SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, with the Swedish marque highlighting the new 800-volt architecture’s reduced overall weight and improved sustainability through a lower copper dependency, all helping to achieve this feat.

New Colour, No LiDAR

Visually, the new EX90 looks identical to its predecessor launched last year, where it still arrives in the same Ultra guise as before.

Some key exterior highlights from the last year’s version are all featured here, including the signature Thor’s hammer LED headlights, the 21-inch two-tone alloy wheels, the vertical LED taillights with C-shaped lighting signatures, and many more.

What’s new here, however, is the addition of the Mulberry Red exterior colour option, joining the existing list of colours such as Onyx Black, Sand Dune, Crystal White, and Vapour Grey.

Keen eyes will notice that the 2026 EX90 no longer comes with the roof-mounted LiDAR unit we saw on the previous version, although VCM insists that the removal of the LiDAR unit does not affect the driving assistance features on this EV SUV.

Nappa-Engulfed Cabin

Another notable change for the 2026 version lies inside, where the cabin is now wrapped in plush Nappa leather upholstery, which comes in either Charcoal with Light Ash decor or Cardamom with Brown Ash decor.

This replaces the Nordico man-made leather upholstery used on last year’s version, which came in either Charcoal or Cardamom, and both of them were paired with Birch Wood decor.

And contrary to our prior report, the 2026 EX90 comes exclusively in a seven-seater form with a 2-3-2 configuration, meaning that the long-rumoured and more premium six-seater version is still eluding our market, although VCM boss Chris Wailes hinted that it might happen sooner than we expect.

Other key cabin amenities primed here include:

  • 14.5-inch infotainment screen powered by Google OS
  • 9-inch digital instrument cluster with HUD
  • Powered, ventilated, and massaging front seats
  • 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system
  • Digital Key Plus with key card and key tag support
  • Four-zone A/C with dedicated second- and third-row vents
  • Electrochromic glass roof
