Chery Malaysia today announced the booking commencement for its upcoming flagship three-row SUV, the Chery Tiggo 9.
Set to be available in a single 2.0T AWD variant, the Tiggo 9 comes with a tentative price below RM189,000, which will include the standard 7-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty plus a separate 7-year or 150,000 km warranty for the engine.

Early bird customers will also enjoy exclusive launch package deals on top of the standard warranties mentioned above, which will be announced during its launch.
Single 2.0T AWD Variant, No Hybrid for Now
As mentioned earlier, the upcoming Tiggo 9 will be available in a sole full combustion variant, using Chery’s tried-and-tested 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine rated at 256 PS and 390 Nm, with a claimed fuel consumption rate of 8.3 litres per 100 km.
Mind you, this is the same engine used on the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, as well as many other Chery Group products on our market. The engine is then mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic box, but unlike the Tiggo 8, the flagship Tiggo 9 comes with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with up to seven driving modes.

Having said that, it seems that the semi-electrified Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV we saw in China last year is eluding our market again, and Chery Malaysia has yet to make any official announcement regarding its eventual arrival into our market.
For reference, the Tiggo 9 PHEV uses a peppier dual-motor version of the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) PHEV setup, featuring a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine that pairs up with two electric motors and a 34.4-kWh battery pack that provides up to 160 km of pure electric range and 1,400 km of combined travel range.
Flagship SUV Size & Stature
Again, drawing comparison to the Tiggo 8, the upcoming Tiggo 9 stood as the larger of the two, spanning 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,741 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm. This makes the T9 88 mm longer and 65 mm wider compared to the Tiggo 8.
Visually, the Tiggo 9 features the same Tiggo design language as many of its smaller siblings. Some key design highlights include full LED headlights flanking the octagonal front grille, C-shaped LED DRLs located on the lower front bumper, full-width LED taillights, flushed door handles, 20-inch multi-spoke wheels with hub cover, and two exterior colour options—Matte Grey and Carbon Black.
Its flagship stature is more apparent inside the cabin, where the T9 gets a slew of extra comfort and tech amenities over other Tiggo models, all spread across three rows of seats with a 2-3-3 seating configuration.
Some tech amenities primed here include:
- 15.6-inch 2K touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 10.25-inch digital metre cluster, a 14-speaker Sony audio system
- Powered front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage support
- Heated second-row seats with a built-in armrest
- 50-watt wireless charger with cooling function
- Multiple USB charging ports (Type-A and Type-C)
- Cooling storage under the centre armrest
- Dynamic 64-colour ambient lights
