Next in line for our Penang Autoshow 2026 coverage comes from Jetour Malaysia, where the automaker has finally unveiled its latest SUV model for the local market, the Jetour T1.

Order books for the new T1 SUV have also been opened, with its tentative prices starting from RM143,800 for the entry-level 1.5TD 2WD and RM153,800 for the top-spec 2.0TD XWD.

T2 For The Urban Road

Also known as the Jetour Freedom in native China, the T1 is essentially a slightly smaller, less rugged version of the now popular Jetour T2, featuring a less boxy and more rounded SUV bodystyle with some familiar design features.

Let’s start with the dimensions first, where the T1 sits smaller than its more rugged sibling, measuring 4,706 mm long, 1,976 mm wide, and 1,845 mm tall with a 2,810 mm wheelbase.

Several of the T1’s design bits are largely carried over from the boxier T2, including its entire front face featuring squared-up LED headlights and a large front grille.

Given its more urban-focused look, the T1 looks noticeably tamer from the sides and beyond, with key highlights including square LED taillights, less flared-out wheel arches, and 19-inch alloy wheels (18-inch for the 1.5TD 2WD variant) shod in road tyres instead of the all-terrain (A/T) tyres used on the T2.

Some interior bits primed to the entry-level T1 1.5TD 2WD include a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, ambient lights, an 8-speaker audio system, six airbags, level 2 ADAS functions, and many more. The top-spec 2.0TD XWD variant, on the other hand, further ups the ante with a larger 15.6-inch touchscreen, power-adjustable front seats, a 9-speaker Sony premium audio system, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, and many more.

Two Full Combustion Powertrain Options

As mentioned earlier, the Malaysian-spec T1 comes in two powertrain flavours, with the entry-level 1.5TD 2WD featuring a less peppy 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine that is mated to a 7-speed DCT. While no exact power output was mentioned, the China-spec model is rated at 184 PS and 290 Nm, with all said power being sent exclusively to the front wheels (FWD) for the 2WD variant.

The top-spec 2.0TD XWD, on the other hand, shares the same 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine with the larger T2. Rated at 245 PS and 375 Nm, said four-banger mill is then mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox and Jetour’s proprietary XWD all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

Bookings Opened, Launching Soon?

With its order books now having been opened officially, we can expect the new Jetour T1 to make its much-anticipated market debut soon, and given how Jetour Malaysia lowers the estimated price on the T2, we can also expect the T1 to be priced lower than its aforementioned tentative prices of RM143,800 and RM153,800.

While Jetour Malaysia didn’t exactly mention this, we can also expect the T1 to be locally-assembled (CKD) at the same Berjaya Assembly plant in Johor as any other Jetour models in Malaysia, as the low prices offered would only be logical to achieve if the automaker opts for local assembly.
