Following its first preview and booking commencement last month, Chery Malaysia has officially launched its new flagship 7-seater SUV, the Chery Tiggo 9, at a special launch event that took place at the iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad earlier today.
Sitting at the top of Chery Malaysia’s Tiggo lineup, the new Tiggo 9 is available in a single 2.0T AWD variant but with two special launch packages—Prime and Flexi.

Opting for the Prime package will get you the new T9 at RM179,800 with the standard warranty package comprising a 7-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year or one million km warranty for the engine, and five years of free labour service. Additional benefits included in this package are a RM3,000 petrol subsidy, one year of free vehicle insurance, and a RM5,000 cash rebate.
There’s also the more basic Flexi package, which lowers the T9 price further to just RM166,800 and comes standard with the same warranty package as the Prime minus the rebates.

2.0T AWD for Now, PHEV Coming Soon?
As detailed in our prior report, the Malaysian-spec Tiggo 9 is available in a sole full combustion variant, using Chery’s tried-and-tested 2.0-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine rated at 256 PS and 390 Nm.
Mind you, this is the same engine used on the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, as well as many other Chery Group products on our market. The engine is then mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic box, but unlike the Tiggo 8, the flagship Tiggo 9 comes with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system with up to seven driving modes.

Although Chery Malaysia previously said that the Tiggo 9 would be offered with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain option, it appears that the semi-electrified variant would be eluding us for now, but we believe it will surely be offered sometime later in the near future.
For reference, the Tiggo 9 PHEV uses a peppier version of the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) PHEV setup, featuring a 1.5-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol engine that pairs up with two electric motors and a 34.4-kWh battery pack to provide up to 160 km of pure electric range and 1,400 km of combined travel range.
Biggest & Most Premium Tiggo to Date
Given its position as the flagship model in Chery’s Tiggo lineup, the new Tiggo 9 currently stands as the largest Chery model to be sold in Malaysia—at least for now.

Spanning 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,741 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm, the T9 is 88 mm longer and 65 mm wider compared to Chery Malaysia’s previous 7-seater SUV model, the Chery Tiggo 8.
Its flagship stature is also reflected in the design highlights primed for this large SUV, including the 20-inch multi-spoke wheels with hub covers, the octagonal front grille flanked by full LED headlights, and the full-width LED taillights donning its derriere. Malaysian buyers, however, are limited to only two exterior colour options for the T9—Matte Grey and Carbon Black.
Inside, passengers will find its 2-3-3 7-seater configuration to be more spacious and accommodating than the Tiggo 8, while the whole cabin is dressed in a series of premium comfort and tech amenities, including
- 15.6-inch 2.5K infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 10.25-inch digital metre cluster
- 14-speaker Sony audio system
- Powered front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage support
- Ventilated and heated second-row seats with a built-in armrest
- 50-watt wireless charger with cooling function
- Multiple USB charging ports (Type-A and Type-C)
- Cooling storage under the centre armrest
- Dynamic 64-colour ambient lights
- Full Level 2.5 ADAS suite
- 10 airbags
