SINGER, the acclaimed luxury restoration specialist from California, USA, has expanded its portfolio with the unveiling of the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer.
This latest project centres on delivering an extraordinary open-top, high-performance driving experience — inspired by the extremely rare wide-body Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet of the 1980s.
A Comprehensive Restoration
The build starts with an original Porsche 911 Type 964 monocoque structure — a chassis that has been on the road for over 30 years. Every unit undergoes a full ground-up restoration, with all components stripped back to the bare shell before cleaning and reinforcement work begins.
The use of carbon fibre body panels doesn’t just give the car a more aggressive stance — it also reduces overall weight while improving chassis rigidity for sharper, more precise handling.
One of the key innovations introduced here is a lightweight Z-fold soft-top mechanism. The system ensures smooth, clean operation when raising or lowering the roof, while maintaining a tidy profile in both open and closed positions.
NA 4.0L Flat-Six Powertrain
The heart of this car is a naturally aspirated (NA) 4.0L Flat-Six engine, fully rebuilt by Singer in collaboration with Cosworth’s engineering expertise.
Previously, PanduLaju featured the Porsche 911 Cabriolet Turbo Study which ran a 3.8L Twin-Turbo setup — this NA unit represents a significant and deliberate evolution in Singer’s powertrain philosophy.
The engine combines liquid-cooled cylinder heads with air-cooled cylinders and an electric power cooling fan — a technically fascinating blend of old and new.
The engine also features Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology — a first for any Singer restoration series — optimising low-speed torque and maximum power at high revs simultaneously.
A total of 426hp is sent entirely to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. Drivers can also opt for an open-gate gear change mechanism, adding a beautifully mechanical visual element to the cabin experience.
Driving Dynamics and Control
To ensure every last horsepower is delivered effectively to the road surface, Singer equips the car with an advanced suspension system featuring 4-setting adjustable dampers with Electronic Damper Control (EDC).
The system can be adjusted directly from the driver’s seat, and also includes a front lift system to clear speed bumps and steep ramps with ease.
Safety and control are further supported by the latest-generation Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control (TC), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) — all co-developed with Bosch.
Five driving modes are available: Road, Sport, Track, Off, and Weather — each tailoring the level of electronic intervention to match the conditions at hand.
Cabin and Personalisation
Every Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is built entirely to its owner’s personal specification — each one a unique automotive work of art.
The cabin features the classic 911 instrument layout, elevated to a new level of luxury through hand-crafted gauges that meet the exacting standards of fine watchmaking.
Singer also introduces a burnished and polished leather stitching technique applied throughout the entire cabin — a first for the Singer restoration series.
Despite the thoroughly classic character, modern technology is integrated in a deliberately minimalist way — navigation and smartphone connectivity are available without compromising the analogue soul of the car.
Owners can choose between lightweight sport seats or track seats to achieve the most ideal driving position for both driver and passenger.
As an additional option, Singer offers either a fixed rear spoiler or an electronically speed-activated deployable spoiler for improved aerodynamic management at higher speeds.
