Local charging point operator Gentari has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BYD Malaysia to support the development and deployment of BYD’s Flash Charging technology in Malaysia.
This partnership will see Gentari supporting BYD in deploying its Flash Chargers in Malaysia, alongside battery energy storage systems (BESS), with the aim of making charging faster and more convenient for EV users in Malaysia.
BYD Flash Charging, Deployed Together with Gentari
Under this MoU, both Gentari and BYD Malaysia will collaborate to identify suitable charging locations for BYD Flash Charging infrastructure, including key intercity corridors connecting major population centres.
The two parties will also assess supporting power infrastructure, battery energy storage requirements, technical and commercial considerations, project development opportunities, as well as potential operating models to enable future deployment at scale.
For those who are not familiar with BYD Flash Charging, this piece of technology was first introduced back in March 2026, where it is rated with up to 1,500 kW of maximum power delivery.
Working together with BYD’s super high-voltage 1,000-volt Super e-Platform battery architecture and the second-gen ‘Blade’ battery technology, this Flash Charging tech promises lighting-fast charging times of 10% to 70% in just five minutes.
We were fortunate enough to witness the live demonstration of this Flash Charging tech at BYD all-terrain circuit in Zhengzhou, China, where a Denza Z9 GT completed a 7% to 97% charge in around ten minutes, and this was enough for over 900 km of travel range, BYD claimed.
Renewable Energy Generation Opportunities to be Explored
Beyond the charging infrastructure itself, both parties will also explore opportunities in renewable energy generation and energy storage, drawing on Gentari’s clean energy expertise and BYD’s capabilities in energy storage and technology innovation.
“Malaysia is an important market for BYD, and we are pleased to bring BYD Flash Charging here as part of our continued efforts to support the country’s growing EV adoption. Through our collaboration with Gentari, we look forward to exploring how this technology can contribute to a faster, more convenient, and more connected charging experience for Malaysian EV users,” said Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD and General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division.

“We are very excited to see this collaboration come together. As an EV leader, we believe our responsibility goes beyond delivering great vehicles. We want to give our customers the confidence to make the switch to electric and enjoy a truly seamless EV ownership experience. This is an important step for BYD in Malaysia, and we are proud to be part of the journey to build a stronger and more complete EV ecosystem for Malaysians,” said Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia.

Prior to this partnership, BYD Malaysia previously announced that the company is planning to introduce its Flash Charging tech to Malaysia, with rollout set to take place in selected BYD and Denza showrooms as well as service centres before eventually making its way to public locations.
The company also promised that these BYD Flash chargers will also be available to other non-BYD EVs in the future, although they won’t get the same super-fast charging benefits as those BYD-branded EVs equipped with its Super e-Platform.
