National new energy vehicle (NEV) marque Proton e.MAS is celebrating yet another sales milestone, as it surpasses the 30,000-unit registration milestone in just 20 months after the launch of its first model, the Proton e.MAS 7.

With a total of 31,504 Proton e.MAS NEVs registered as of July 31, 2026, Proton e.MAS has become the fastest automotive brand in Malaysia to achieve this feat.

Over 30,000 Units Registered Locally

Of the total 31,504 units registered, 30,293 of them are for the Malaysian domestic market, which is enough to position the Proton e.MAS as the leading NEV marque in Malaysia for 2026.

According to Proton e.MAS, this rapid growth of NEV uptake also enabled the company to expand its charging network, strengthen after-sales support, and even invest in local manufacturing with the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV becoming its latest product to be locally-assembled at Proton’s NEV plant in Tanjong Malim.

As for exports, more than 1,211 units of the Proton e.MAS NEVs have been delivered to selected overseas markets. This includes the compact Proton e.MAS 5, where a total of 130 units have been exported since its introduction to overseas markets earlier this year.

Proton e.MAS 5 – Still Malaysia’s Most Popular EV

Speaking of the e.MAS 5, this compact EV hatch recently surpassed 13,279 registrations so far this year, thus retaining its crown as Malaysia’s most popular EV model.

The same goes for the larger e.MAS 7, where it has become the country’s best-selling C-segment EV SUV with 12,068 units delivered since its introduction, while its PHEV twin, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV leads the plug-in hybrid market with 4,946 units delivered.

EV Ecosystem Expanded

To support this rapid registration, Proton e.MAS has also expanded its local EV ecosystem with the introduction of new charging stations and the expansion of its retail and service networks.

To date, Proton e.MAS has grown its retail footprint to 58 dealerships, which is supported by 45 service centres and 10 body & paint centres nationwide, ensuring every Proton e.MAS owners have easy access to comprehensive sales and aftersales support.

As for the charging, the Proton e.MAS Integrated Live Charging Map now lists more than 4,700 charging points, covering over 90% of the country. This includes more than 1,500 charging points across over 600 condominiums, making home and destination charging more accessible than ever.

Looking ahead, parent company Proton has invested an additional RM37 million to expand its dedicated NEV plant in Tanjong Malim, which will see its annual production capacity increase from 20,000 units to 42,000 units to meet growing demand from both domestic and international markets.
