Besides the barrage of new cars and four-wheeled concepts, this year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2026) also featured one two-wheeled surprise, as Suzuki Malaysia Sdn Bhd has previewed its upcoming middleweight sports tourer, the Suzuki SV-7GX.

This touring twin to the now-discontinued Suzuki SV650 previously made its global debut at EICMA 2025, featuring similar visual bits from its larger sibling, the Suzuki GSX-S1000GX, while being a more sport-oriented alternative to the popular Suzuki V-Strom 650.

Same 649-cc V-Twin Engine as SV650

Powering the new SV-7GX is the same 649-cc four-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC V-twin engine found on both the SV650 and V-Strom 650, which has been retuned to fit its sports touring nature.

Rated at 73 PS at 8,500 RPM and 64 Nm of torque at 6,800 RPM, said V-twin mill is then mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a quickshifter that sends power to the rear wheel via a chain final drive.

Despite its middleweight position, the new SV-7GX is equipped with a series of mechanical and riding-related gizmos, including:

  • Traction Control System (TCS) with three selectable levelsThree ride modes (A, B, and C)
  • Brake-by-Wire system with dual-channel ABS
  • Single front and rear disc brakes with Tokiko single calipers
  • Upside-down telescopic front forks (41 mm) with 125 mm travel
  • Rear monoshock suspension with adjustable preload and 129 mm travel

Middleweight Size with Touring-Ready Amenities

In terms of size, the new SV-7GX belongs to the same category as other middleweight sport touring bikes, with the whole bike tipping the scale at 211 kg.

It uses a sizable 17.4-litre fuel tank, while the seat height is capped at 795 mm, thus making it quite accessible to most Malaysian riders. Despite rolling on 17-inch front-and-rear wheels, the SV-7GX gets a pretty healthy ground clearance of 135 mm.

Some other touring-oriented bits primed here include hand guards, a clear windscreen with three adjustable levels, full LED lights on both ends, a 4.2-inch TFT metre display with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, a USB-C charging port, and many more.
