Chery Auto Malaysia has begun a recall campaign for its Chery Omoda 5 SUV following an incident in Johor Bahru last week, where the car’s rear axle detached from the frame.
This recall campaign will involve both the C and H variants of the Omoda 5, where the cars will be inspected and affected components will be replaced wherever necessary. Owners of the Omoda 5 can verify whether their vehicle is affected by checking the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Chery Auto Malaysia’s official website.
Free Inspection & Component Replacement for Affected Units
According to Chery Auto Malaysia’s official statement, owners of these affected units will receive comprehensive vehicle inspections, as well as any necessary follow-up actions, including replacement of the affected component—all being done for free of charge.
The Wuhu-based automaker also encourages any Omoda 5 owners seeking added peace of mind to visit an authorised Chery service centre, where their technical teams are ready to assist.
VTA Temporarily Suspended by JPJ
Prior to this official announcement, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had issued a temporary suspension on the Chery Omoda 5’s vehicle type approval (VTA), meaning that the automaker cannot make any new registration of this model until the technical investigation is concluded.
According to its official statement, JPJ said this action will be implemented in a targeted manner, where the department will focus on the potentially affected models and variants. The statement continued with JPJ recommending a recall to be carried out by Chery Auto Malaysia for all vehicles identified as being at risk.

While this VTA suspension affects the Chery Omoda 5 at large, this particular model was already discontinued in 2025 and was replaced by an updated version of this SUV now known as the Chery O5. This updated version features a multi-link rear suspension in place of the torsion beam setup used on its predecessor.
