Volvo Car Malaysia Unveils Selamat Driving Experience Defensive Driving Course

Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has announced the introduction of its new defensive driving course known as the Selamat Driving Experience, which is part of the company’s broader ‘Selamat’ safety awareness campaign.

Members of the public are invited to join this new driving course, set to take place at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) Driving Experience Centre from May 16 to 17, 2026, with an aim to encourage Malaysians to “stop treating safety as an afterthought.”

Full-On Defensive Driving Training

The Selamat Driving Experience is curated to train Malaysians to be safer when driving, where they will be taught how to handle emergency situations when driving, with the whole course being guided by trained and professionally-certified driving instructors.

During this course, participants would also be chanced to test out some of the safety features primed on Volvo cars firsthand, including the new Safe Space Technology, as well as many other active and passive safety functions.

Ultimately, this driving course, as well as the entire Selamat campaign as a whole, is part of VCM’s initiative to spread awareness on how quickly things can go bad when you are driving, especially for those who have not experienced any emergency situations when they are behind the wheel.

The company also quoted data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), where a total of 4,428 transport-related fatal accidents were recorded in 2024, of which 2,574 casualties came from victims aged between 15 and 40 years old.

“We often take safety for granted, growing apathetic and even careless, simply because it hasn’t happened to us yet. But behind every number is a person who didn’t come home. The Selamat Driving Experience aims to transform that abstraction into something real by bringing these stories and experiences into an immersive space where the cost of quiet complacency becomes impossible to ignore,” said VCM sales and marketing director Patricia Yaw.

Limited Slots Available

Registration for the Volvo Selamat Driving Experience is now open to the public, with prices beginning at RM150 per person for Volvo car owners, RM300 for non-Volvo car owners, and RM100 for non-participating guests. Only 192 slots are opened for this inaugural programme, and registration can be made via Volvo Car Malaysia’s official website.
